Recalling the memories of the July movement, National Citizens' Committee (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said, “On this day last year, Chhatra League terrorists brutally assaulted our sisters at Dhaka University. By creating a division between freedom fighters and so-called 'Razakars', Sheikh Hasina divided the nation. For 50 years, Mujibist ideology kept Bangladesh politically fragmented. But through the people's uprising of 2024, we moved forward, breaking free from this division.”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a mass gathering held at the Bhola Press Club premises on Tuesday (July 15) at 2 PM.
Nahid Islam said, “The July uprising was based on dignity, against discrimination, and stood in opposition to mafia rule. It was a fight to rebuild Bangladesh on new foundations.”
He further added, “We pledged to build an inclusive and democratic Bangladesh—a country for workers, farmers, the middle class, and ordinary people. But the people of Bhola have long been deprived of development. Even in this modern era, they are still denied basic rights and services. We are here today to close that gap. There will no longer be any distance between us and the people of Bhola.”
Highlighting the gas fields in Bhola, he remarked, “Despite contributing to the national gas supply, the people of Bhola are deprived of gas usage themselves. Hospitals here are dysfunctional, and residents have to travel far for education and medical care. We want Bhola to become a self-reliant, prosperous, and dignified district.”
The rally was moderated by NCP's Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam.
Other speakers included Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, Shaheed Hasan’s father Monir Hossain, Youth Power leader Advocate Russell, Dhaka South Coordinator Salma Akter, Farzana Ahmed, Abdullah Al Mamun, Barisal Regional Joint Coordinator Faisal Mahmud Shanto, Bhola District Chief Coordinator Mehedi Hasan Sharif, District Joint Coordinator Yasir Arafat, and Mu. Maksudur Rahman, among others.
Also present were NCP's Chief Organizer (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zarah, Joint Member Secretary Moshior Rahman, Joint Chief Organizer Dr. Mahmuda Akter Mitu, and Joint Chief Coordinator Arifur Rahman Tuhin, among many others.
