On the occasion of Durga Puja and Vijayadashami, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman extended greetings, stating that while religion belongs to individuals, the state belongs to all, and so does the right to security. He urged law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant against any attempts to disrupt communal harmony.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has conveyed his heartfelt greetings and felicitations to Hindus at home and abroad on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja and Vijayadashami, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
In a message sent to the media on Wednesday (October 1), he said that people of different religions have been practicing their respective faiths in Bangladesh for centuries. “This is the beauty of our traditional social values and culture,” he added.
Tarique Rahman emphasized: “Religion belongs to individuals, but the state belongs to everyone. Security is the fundamental right of every citizen. Law enforcement agencies must remain alert to prevent any attempts to disrupt communal harmony.”
He further noted that the arrival of autumn, with its kashful blossoms and the hint of winter, ushers in the festive spirit of Durga Puja. Such festivities strengthen the bonds of harmony, friendship, and brotherhood among people of all religions, castes, and communities. He stressed that the state and the constitution guarantee equal protection to every citizen—whether believer, non-believer, or skeptic.
Underscoring the need for a firm stance against conspiracies to disrupt communal peace, Tarique Rahman said: “No fascist mentality or plot should be allowed to disturb the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the Sharadiya festival. Law enforcement must remain vigilant so that the celebrations can take place smoothly and without interruption.”
