At the July Charter signing ceremony held at the South Plaza of the Parliament House, 25 political parties signed the charter. Although most opposition and Islamic-leaning parties participated in this historic event organized by the National Consensus Commission, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) did not sign.
The much-discussed “July Charter” in the country’s political landscape has finally been signed. On Friday afternoon (17 October), representatives and chief advisors of 25 political parties signed the charter at a colorful ceremony held at the South Plaza of the Parliament House. Members of the National Consensus Commission were also present.
However, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has not yet signed the charter. The party stated that it will make a decision after reviewing certain conditions.
The parties that signed the charter include: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Khilafat Majlis, State Reform Movement, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), Citizens’ Unity, Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Ganasanghati Andolan, Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Gonadhikar Parishad (GOP), Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers’ Party, Nationalist Allied Front, Bangladesh LDP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Gonoforum, Zaker Party, National Ganofront, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party, Bangladesh Labor Party, Bhasani Janashakti Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, Islami Oikya Jote, and Amjonotar Dal.
Through this signing, the political parties have reaffirmed their commitment to work together for the future political direction of the country.
